My name is Caroline. I am a drawer and painter who works primarily with acrylic paint. My main focuses are portraiture and painting human figures. My inspiration for my body of work comes mostly from my life experiences and how they affect me and how I can visually represent these emotions and experiences to the viewer through color and symbolism in my artwork. 

Artist Statement:

My art portfolio is comprised of multiple different mediums that I’ve explored over the years including pottery, metalwork, and collage. However, the majority of my work is made up of paintings with a focus on portraiture and landscapes. 

I create artwork as a way of visually expressing my point of view to others and to serve as an emotional outlet for myself and ideally others. I am interested in portraiture and capturing moments and emotions for others and myself to view and feel. While my past artwork was often more realistic and classically influenced, upon starting college, my artwork became more conceptual and experimental. I learned to loosen up my mark-making and strive more for emotional impact than for realism and found that this drastically changed my art process and what is important for me to present to the world. 

Adding personal aspects to my artwork through construction, revision, and mark-making is especially important to me. The pieces I connect to the most involve a build-up of history that goes into the creation of not only the paintwork but also the canvas or workspace itself. I collect mementos wherever I go and this translates into adding little details to my art that is only there for myself. I strongly believe that struggling to measure and construct my own canvases and search for old surfaces from thrift stores to paint on, adds importance and character to my artwork and makes it more personal to me.
